SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Mark Wilkins took the oath of office to become South Orange's newest police officer at the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night.

Wilkins, who was originally brought on as a dispatcher, was described as a "good man" by Police Chief James Chelel, who added, "I know he's going to be a great addition to our department."

Chelel said that Wilkins worked very hard to get where he is today. "To Mark, I would say that while you're here, you'll experience great highs and great lows," the chief said. "Never let either one of those overwhelm you."

Chelel thanked the trustees for approving the latest addition to the police force, noting that public safety is vital to South Orange. "It's the foundation of our community," he said.
