SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -- The relocation of Village Hall offices to 76 South Orange Ave., originally planned for late August, has been scheduled for Oct. 3-6.
Village Hall offices will reopen on Monday, Oct. 7 at the new location.
“Landlord improvements at 76 South Orange Ave. were delayed somewhat and there was some additional time needed to coordinate the transfer of phone lines as well as get our network up and running,” village Administrator Barry Lewis Jr. Lewis said in an email interview. He said that “packing of files and materials has been underway for weeks.”
In addition, Lewis said, additional time was needed to review the asbestos abatement bids and meet with the apparent low bidder. He added that the bids for asbestos abatement came in substantially under budget.
“That item had been a large uncertainty and was conservatively carried in the budget at $600,000,” he said. “The low bidder, to whom we expect to award a contract, had a successful bid of only$194,500, more than $400,000 below the estimate.”
Lewis said the current schedule projects that construction will be substantially complete by April 2015, with an estimated cost of $6.5 million.
While Village Hall is being renovated, meetings of the Board of Trustees, the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Historic Preservation Commission will be held at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, according to Lewis.
