SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The 2nd Annual South Plainfield High School (SPHS) Tint Sprint 5K & Wellness Fair will take place, rain or shine, on Sunday, April 23. This year’s event will hosted by the SPHS chapter of DECA Chapter and tennis teams along with the South Plainfield Mayor’s Wellness Committee with proceeds benefitting the two high school organizations.

Designed to bring the community together for a day of family, friends, fun, and fitness, participants ages 12 and older will wear all white as they rage through zones full of friends, spring scenery, and random ‘blasts’ of color, concluding with a Grand Finale Color Explosion. Whether walking, running, or crawling, the purpose of the Tint Sprint is not to race, but to simply finish covered in various colors.

“The event has something for everyone,” said event co-organizer Kayla Bryant-Khanutin, a SPHS teacher and DECA advisor. “Participants will get a chance to not only challenge themselves physically by running the race, but also meet with local medical professionals about ways to keep healthy.”

This year’s Tint Sprint will take place on the grounds of SPHS at 12 p.m. Registration is $25 per student (ages 12-18) and $30 per adult (age 19+); upon completion of the 5K all participants receive a 2017 finisher’s T-shirt. Additionally, prior to its start of the sprint, there will be a special ‘Fun Run’ for children (ages 5 to 11) at 11 a.m.; the cost is $15 per child. Please note: advance ticket purchased for all race participants is required with a firm deadline of Wednesday, April 5; absolutely no registration will be accepted after this time, and tickets will not be sold the day of the event.

The Tint Sprint will also feature a health and vendor fair sponsored by the South Plainfield Mayor’s Wellness Committee. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., the fair will feature a basket auction and a variety of vendors, including local community organizations, restaurants and businesses. Medical professionals will also be on hand offering free demonstrations, snacks, mini-workshops, and tips for healthy living.

Support, in the form of monetary donations, sponsorships and vendors, is needed to make the 2017 Tint Sprint a success. Businesses, families and organizations looking to financially support the event can purchase space for their name to be listed on the back of the event's official race T-shirt ($35); shirts are complimentary for all race participants and will be sold to the general public.

Additionally, vendors are also needed for the Wellness Fair as are prizes and favors. For those looking to be a vendor, the cost is $50 and includes a 6-foot table and one chair per organization/business. The Wellness Fair requires a 11 a.m. set up and a 3:30 p.m. (at the earliest) breakdown. No electricity will be provided. Donations, such as gift certificates, race bibs, snacks and sports drinks, are also needed as are products that will be included in ‘Tint Sprint’ participant bags or to be auctioned off at the Wellness Fair.

For additional information on how you can help, contact Kayla Bryant-Khanutin at kbryantkhanutin@spboe.org/908-754-4620, ext. 527 or Dana Curcio at dcurcio@spboe.org.

“The Tint Sprint is the big fundraiser for both of these organizations and we would love the support of the community,” said SPHS teacher and tennis coach Dana Curio, event co-organizer. “It's a great cause and great way to come together, eat and shop, all while improving the quality of our lives.”

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn (William Morrow, 2018)

A friend, whose opinion on literature I respect greatly, reported to me recently that she had just finished reading A.J. Finn's debut novel, The Woman in the Window. Of it she said, “I wish I hadn't finished it,” which I interpreted to mean, “It was so good I'm sorry that I finished it.” ...
