On Tuesday, statewide business publication NJBIZ honored A.J. Perri founder Albert Perri, Sr. as a leader in Garden State business in the magazine’s annual Icon Honors Awards. Now in its third year, the awards program recognizes prominent figures in New Jersey business over the age of sixty for their notable success and demonstration of strong leadership both within and outside of their chosen field.

After serving in the military in the 1960s, Albert Perri returned home to put his skills to work in the HVAC and plumbing industry. He quickly realized that he could be providing better service for customers, and he struck out on his own and started A.J. Perri out of his garage in 1971. At first his only employees were his wife Linda and their sons, but today, 48 years later, A.J. Perri is the leading and largest family-operated HVAC and plumbing company in the state with over 400 employees and more than 250 service trucks. His son Kevin Perri still serves as company vice president, while Albert now enjoys a much-deserved retirement.

“This is truly a great honor and a wonderful gesture for everything my father has done, for this company and for the hundreds of employees I have the pleasure of working with,” said Kevin Perri, who accepted the award on Albert Perri’s behalf. “Without the tireless work he put in almost 50 years ago, up until the day he retired only a few years back, this industry in New Jersey would look vastly different. Much thanks to NJBIZ for this recognition.”

Outside of HVAC and plumbing, Albert Perri instilled a culture of service and giving back to the community that persists to this day. The company program A.J. Perri Cares provides free air conditioning and heating relief to veterans and disabled persons in need, most recently Vietnam veteran Angelo Scalo of Fairfield, who received and had installed an entire central air conditioning system and generator. “I never have a shortage of volunteers for A.J. Perri Cares,” added Perri. “Our people are always so eager to give back, an attitude we would not have without my father’s influence.”

A.J. Perri is based in Tinton Falls and provides services to over 100,000 New Jersey homeowners. The signature green trucks can be seen across Monmouth, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union counties. For more information, visit AJPerri.com.
