BOONTON, NJ – South Plainfield Tiger Angela Sanchez scored twice, and the Tigers’ defense was able to turn aside a tough Boonton offense to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 victory over Boonton. South Plainfield scored all three of their goals in the first half. In addition to Sanchez’s two goals, South Plainfield’s Caity Hughes scored her State leading 20th goal of the season for the Tigers other goal.
“Today was a total team effort,” said South Plainfield Head Coach Melissa Szeliga. “We came out with intensity right from the beginning and made sure we were playing our game.”
A total team effort is what South Plainfield is going to need as they play Middlesex County rival Monroe on Monday. Monroe handed South Plainfield their only loss of the season earlier this year.
“We focused a lot on good defense, positioning, interchanging positions offensively, and getting good shots on the cage and today the girls executed all of that very well” said Szeliga.
According to Szeliga today’s game will hopefully prepare the Tigers for the Monroe matchup.
The victory improves South Plainfield’s record to 8-1 on the season. Boonton dropped to 3-4-2. South Plainfield goalie Stephanie Bohn recorded the shutout victory turning away all nine shots on goal.
