SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - There are many great ways to be a friend. One of them is to become a member of the “Friends of the South Plainfield Free Public Library.” This organization helps the public library in many ways. Through their membership and fund raising events the Friends sponsor many programs and events at the library. One of those sponsorships is the Museum Pass Program. This program gives the patron discounted passes to some of the great museums in New Jersey. If you have children then you know of Dr. Seuss and “Read Across America”. Each year in March Dr. Seuss’s birthday is celebrated and books are read to the children by some of our leading political figures. Birthday cake and gifts are given to the children. The Friends make this possible. Children, young adults, and adults are treated to a wide variety of programs of which many have been sponsored by the Friends. The Friends also support the development, expansion, and improvement of library collections, facilities and services to patrons. The Friends have purchased some computers and other technology to enhance the library.
Ongoing fundraising includes the Gertrude Hawk Candy Bar sale at the library. Other fundraising includes the two book sales (spring and fall), 50/50 raffles, and taking chances on winning a theme basket.
Friends of the South Plainfield Free Public Library meet once a month from September to June. During those meetings many decisions are made that help to raise funds and what programs will be sponsored.
Your membership will make a difference. Annual Membership Donations are from September to August and are as follows: Family $10; Individual $7.50; Senior $5; Student $3; Sponsor $25; or a one time donation as a Lifetime Member $100.
Please join us today. If you have questions, please call the library at 908 754-7885 or you can stop by the library during library operating hours.
What better way to be a Friend to a community based organization than joining the Friends of the South Plainfield Free Public Library.
