Help us help others in need this holiday season!  The Library has partnered up with the South Plainfield Social Services Department to help make the holidays merrier for those in need.  Our Angel Tree has ornaments that represent residents who are in need this holiday season.  If you would like to participate and become an “Angel”, stop by the library, take an ornament off of the tree and then sign up at the front desk.   You'll have until 6:00 PM Friday December 13th to return a new and unwrapped gift to the library!  Please make sure to attach the ornament to the gift when you return it.  If there are any questions, please call us.

Once again, South Plainfield Public Library is participating in the Books to Keep program.  Books to Keep collects and distributes new hardcover and paperback books for needy children in Middlesex County during the holiday season.  The Library will be accepting donations of new books, both hardcover and paperback, for children and young adults. The book drive will run at the library until December 3rd. In lieu of books, monetary donations are also welcome.  Please call the library and ask for Ken Morgan if there are any other questions.

Missed a new movie you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay for the DVD?  Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library.  It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost.  We are showing brand new releases every Monday night at 6:30pm.  We will be providing popcorn for all who attend.  The movie this week stars Channing Tatum as a police officer and Jamie Foxx as the President of the United States. In this movie, they have to try to stop a terrorist assault on the White House.  For a list of upcoming movies, stop by the library and pick up a schedule.

The Library has started 3 book clubs for adults who are interested in reading and discussing books.  We have a Tuesday afternoon group that meets at 4pm.  The next meeting is going to be on December 17th, where they will be discussing Serena by Ron Rash. There is also Thursday evening book club.  There is no December meeting for the Thursday night club.  The next meeting will be on January 30 where they will be discussing Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel.  Our brand new book club is our Mystery Book Club. The next meeting of the South Plainfield Mystery Book Club will be on Wednesday December 18th at 4pm.  The book that they will be discussing is The Twelve Clues of Christmas by Rhys Bowen.  The Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening book clubs have their books selected through 2013 and into 2014.  Stop by and pick up a schedule of the books being discussed.  If you are interested in attending any of these book clubs and need a copy of the book that is being discussed stop by the library.

The Library will be closing early for the Thanksgiving holiday.  On Wednesday November 27th, instead of being open until 9pm, we will be closing at 6pm and will also be closed on Thursday November 28th and Friday November 29th.  We will reopen Saturday November 30th at 9am.

If you can’t get to the library because you are pregnant, don’t drive, or are ill, and still would like to be able to get library materials, then sign up for our homebound delivery service.  You call us to sign up and tell us what you would like to read and we will match you with a volunteer.  We will pick out books for you, check them out and then deliver them to your door.  When you are done the volunteer will pick them up and bring them back to the library along with any requests for other books.   If you have any questions about this service or want to sign up, please give us a call at 908-754-7885.

We will be following our regular schedule for the children’s programs. The Storytime program for 2s & 3s is held Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30.  Storytime for ages 3 and up is held Tuesday mornings at 10:30, Wednesday night at 6:30, and Thursday afternoon at 1:15.  The Babytime program for ages up to 2 years is held Friday morning at 10:30. These programs do not require registration.  Please try to get to the Storytime programs on time because it can get very disruptive for Miss Linda and Miss Mija and the children if people come in the middle of the program.

We are open 7 days a week except on holidays.  Our hours are as follows:  Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we are open 10-9, Tuesdays and Fridays we are open 10-6, Saturdays 9-5 and Sundays 1:30-5
