In addition to the regular children’s programming, there are also some special programs happening this week.  On Tuesday, August 15 at 1:30 PM, there is a Special Needs Sensory Storytime.  This special storytime is intended for preschool to young adult aged individuals with special needs.  Ms. Mija presents the storytime in a way to make participants more comfortable than they would be at one of the regular storytimes.

There will also be Chinese Language Storytime on Tuesday, August 15 at 4:30 PM.  Children ages 2 to 6 are invited to join Ms. Kitty and Ms. Suzy as they read stories and sing songs in Chinese.  Please note that although the program will be presented in Mandarin, children with no Chinese experience are encouraged to attend as well!  A short description of the stories and the songs in English will be handed out.

On Wednesday, August 16 at 6:30 PM, bring your children to see the Magic Show with Magician Joe Fischer at the South Plainfield Senior Center.  In lieu of an admission charge, please bring in a new, unopened non-perishable food item or personal care product for each person attending.  These donated items will go to the South Plainfield Food Pantry.  No registration is required for this fun magic-filled event.  Special thanks to the South Plainfield Suburban Women’s Club for sponsoring this event!

Join Ms. Mija for Family Game Day on Friday, August 18 at 3 PM.  Bring one of your favorite board games to share or use one of ours to play against friends, family, and Ms. Mija.  Adults are encouraged to participate as well, so feel free to bring along grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. to play!  All ages are welcome.  No registration is required.

Teens 13 and older are invited to stop by Monday, August 21 at 3:30 PM for a viewing of the new romantic drama based on the best-selling novel by Nicola Yoon.  Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson star in this film, which is about a severely ill teenager who is not allowed to leave her house and falls in love with the new boy next door.  With a twist at the end, this movie is perfect for fans of The Fault in Our Stars.  The movie is PG-13, so children under 13 are invited with parent permission.  Popcorn will be served.

Ms. Mija is ending the summer with a super fun Pajama Bingo Night!  On Wednesday, August 23 at 6:30 PM, all ages are invited to put on a set of your favorite pajamas and come play bingo.  Of course, there will be prizes!  No registration is required.

Keep in mind that the last day to check in for the Children and Young Adult Summer Reading is Saturday, August 19.  All regular children’s programming will also be canceled from August 21 to September 30.  We will see you in October!

Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 10 AM-9 PM, Tuesday and Friday 10 AM-6 PM, and Saturday 9 AM-5 PM.  We are currently closed Sundays for the summer.
