The South Plainfield Public Library is still closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t access some great resources from us. For our online databases, you will need a library barcode number (which is on the back of your library card) and a pin number (which is usually the last four digits of your phone number that you gave us upon creating your card). However, if you find yourself at home without either a library card or a pin number, you can apply for a temporary membership. If you are a South Plainfield resident, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org with your full name, address, phone number, and date of birth, and we will send you back a barcode and pin number that you can use to access our online resources.
If you have library items at home, don’t worry about renewing them or accruing any late fees. All items are being automatically renewed, and if anything is missed, just know that we are not charging any fines. If your library card is expiring soon, that will also be automatically renewed.
If you are interested in using our online databases and are unsure how to get started, check out the South Plainfield Public Library YouTube page for tutorials from our staff. So far, you can see how to create an account on Hoopla, Freegal, Universal Class, and Ancestry Library Edition, with more to come! Hoopla allows you to watch movies and TV shows, as well as read and listen to e-books, while Freegal allows you to download music and audiobooks. Universal Class is full of continuing education resources, and Ancestry Library Edition allows you to search your family history.
Have you been checking out our virtual programs on Zoom? We have live storytimes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:30 AM, as well as Babytime on Fridays at 10:15 AM. Ms. Kitty has Chinese storytime on Mondays at 10:30 AM, and Ms. Jailene has her Learn Spanish program on Thursdays at 6:30 PM. Propbox Players will be presenting virtual theatre on Saturdays at 11 AM; on May 16, the virtual theatre also involves a slime demo. Movement programs for children such as Zumba, Kungfu, Hip Hop dance classes, and yoga are being added to the schedule, so definitely check out our Facebook page and library website for more information on these and any of our virtual programs for children and adults, as well as to see which staff member you would need to email to request a Zoom invitation.
