The South Plainfield Public Library will be open this Sunday, June 24 from 1:30 PM – 5 PM.  This is the last Sunday the library will be open until September.  During July and August, the library will be closed on Sundays, but the rest of the hours during the week will remain the same.

Come join us Monday, June 25 at 6:30 PM for Monday Night Movies.  The selection this week is based on the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.  It stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Chris Pine, and it is rated PG.  If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there is a second screening on Wednesday, June 27 at 12:30 PM.

This Saturday, June 23 at 2 PM, herbalist Gert Coleman will be presenting Herbs 101.  This informative program looks at all aspects of herbs, including how to grow them, how to cook with them, and how to use them to ease headaches, colds, and other winter ailments.  She will also discuss some of the historical, cultural, and mythical lore surrounding herbs.  Registration is required, but there is still plenty of room, so call the Reference Desk at (908) 754-7885 ext. 3 to reserve your space.

It’s that time of the year again!  Now that school is out, let the Summer Reading Program begin!  The library has Summer Reading Programs for all ages: babies, school-age children, teens, and adults.  The first day to register is Monday, June 25, and it continues throughout the summer.  For the Children’s and Teen Summer Reading Programs, participants are given a booklet to record their book titles in, and then they come back each week (starting Monday, July 2) to get a participation prize.  The more books read, the bigger the prizes are.  Don’t worry if you go on vacation because we will catch you up on anything you missed.

Children’s programming is canceled until Monday, July 2.  All regular storytimes resume that week at their normal times.  We have also been preparing for the many special programs scheduled this summer to help keep your children occupied during the summer slump.  There will be special kidcraft programs, as well as STEM activities.  The drive-in movie craft will be back due to popular demand.  Make sure to check out the July calendar to get the dates and times of these amazing programs.

Do you need some computer help or just a quick refresher on how to use Word, Excel, setting up an email account, or just some Internet basics?  Stop by the library or call to sign up for an appointment with a member of the Reference staff.  Someone will work with you one-on-one with any of your computer needs for 45 to 60 minutes.

Are you looking to practice your English conversation skills?  Join us for a friendly, fun, and informal way to build your conversation skills at one of our English Conversation Groups.  Currently, there are two times to meet: Monday mornings from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM and Tuesday afternoons from 1 PM - 3 PM.  Please register by calling (908) 754-7885 ext. 2 or stopping by the Circulation Desk.  If anyone is interested in teaching a new ESL group at another time, please ask for Ms. Eve.  We are always looking for more students and teachers.
