Did you miss a movie that you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay to rent it or for the DVD? Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library. It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost. We are showing brand new releases every Monday night and we will be providing popcorn for all who attend. Please note that the doors for the movie will open at 6:15 so we can finish setting up for the movie. This week’s movie stars: Renée Zellweger. This movie is a biopic recounting the life of legendary Hollywood star, Judy Garland (Zellweger). The actress is a beloved icon in the United States where she starred in such musical classics as "The Wizard of Oz" and "Meet Me in St. Louis." The action takes place during a 1969 European concert tour in which the star sold out shows in London for five consecutive weeks. This week, the movie that is shown on Monday night will also be shown again on the Friday at 12:30 pm for those that can’t make the Monday night showing or don’t like to drive at night because we will be closed on Wednesday for New Year’s Day. Stop by the library and pick up a schedule of the movies being shown.

Who hasn’t watched Antiques Roadshow with curiosity and wonder and thought about Aunt Sally’s old costume jewelry, coffee or tea set or that clock that was passed down from your great-grandfather? Could they really be worth something, aside from sentimental value? Take a closer look at the items on your shelves, dig around your basements and attics; and then bring them to South Plainfield Senior Center Saturday January 18 from 1-3pm as the South Plainfield Public Library welcomes back extremely popular expert antique appraiser Alan Snyder. Mr. Snyder discusses the current marketplace and the recent changes in collecting trends. Then he examines and verbally appraises the items that have been brought, providing facts or historical information about the item. He concludes with an entertaining question and answer period. At this program people will receive a number, and as each person's number is called, they will bring up 1-2 items for Alan to appraise (please no weapons). For larger items a good photo will suffice. It’s always interesting to see what the true value is compared to what you would think it is. It’s also fun to see what other people collect, as well as their reactions to Alan's appraisal.
