Come join us for Monday Night Movies! On Monday, August 26 at 6:30 PM, we will be showing the movie based on W. Bruce Cameron’s book A Dog’s Journey. This movie is the sequel to the film based on his book A Dog’s Purpose. Please note that the doors do not open until 6:15 PM to give us time to finish setting up. If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there is a second screening on Wednesday, August 28 at 12:30 PM. This movie is rated PG-13. Bring some tissues.
Children’s programming is canceled for the last week of August and the month of September; all children’s programs will resume Tuesday, October 1. Thank you for a wonderful and fun-filled summer! This programming break gives the staff in the Children’s Room time to plan even more programs for the Fall. The Children’s Room will still be open, so come on by and see us!
August is not yet over, but it’s never too early to plan for September! The library will be closed Sunday, September 1 and Monday, September 2 for Labor Day. The library will then be open on Sundays starting September 8 from 1:30 to 5 PM.
On Saturday, September 7 at 1 PM, join us for The Sixties: The Motown Story. Rock historian Vincent Bruno will present a lecture that will explore how the “Motown Sound” was created and how it has become a worldwide phenomenon beloved by millions. Motown, established by Berry Gordy in 1960, has been described as the greatest pop music hit factory in recording history. From the “hit machine” songwriting teams to the in-house studio band to the extraordinary roster of recording artists including Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, The Supremes, Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and countless others. The influence of the house that Gordy built is still standing with 201 No. 1 worldwide hits and counting. Registration is required; to register, please call the Circulation Desk at (908) 754-7885 ext. 2.
The Friends of the Library Book Sale is coming! We are still taking book, DVD, and CD donations- please make sure everything is in good condition with no yellowing, water damage, or scratches. The book sale will start Saturday, September 21.
Keep an eye out for more information regarding the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Saturday, September 21 from 12 to 3 PM. There will be dancing, food, and crafts. Mark your calendars!
Now that South Plainfield Public Library has been part of the Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium (LMxAC) for almost four months, hopefully everyone (patrons and staff alike!) has gotten used to the changes. One of the new changes that we get asked about is the “autorenewal.” Items will be automatically renewed by the system on the day they are due as long as there is nothing preventing the items from being renewed, such as holds or being renewed too many times. It is still important to check your account in case something hasn’t been renewed, but it’s a very nice feature to have especially when you’ve forgotten the due date.
Another awesome feature is the LMxPRESS PLUS app. It is available to download on both the App Store and Google Play. This app will allow you to store a digital copy of your library card on your device. You can also save up to three library cards on one account. You can search all LMxAC member libraries for items you want; you can place holds and renew items. For more information, check out the website https://www.lmxac.org/info/lmxpress-plus/.
