Do you do a lot of shopping at Amazon?  Did you know that you can help the South Plainfield Public Library when you shop there?  It is very simple and is for a great cause.  All you have to do is designate the Friends of the South Plainfield Public Library as your charity and shop on!  You go to (it’s exactly the same as, but this is the charity site) and in the pick your own charitable organization box type in Friends of the South Plainfield Public Library and click “Search”.  Select the Friends as your designated organization and shop away. The Friends of the Library will receive 0.5% from every eligible purchase you make through the Amazon Smile program.  If there’s any questions, stop by the library and pick up a flyer.

Our groundbreaking ceremony was a great success and now that the project is underway, our library has over 80,000 materials that will need a new home in our new building.  The library is holding a fundraiser for new shelving to hold our collection.  We are asking families to consider sponsoring a shelf.  The $100 donation will help us purchase new shelving for our collection.  Your name will be placed on a plaque to recognize your contribution.  If you would like to donate, please come by the library and pick up a flyer to fill out.  Checks can be made payable to the South Plainfield Public Library Foundation.

Missed a movie you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay for the DVD?  Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library.  It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost.  We are showing brand new releases every Monday night and we will be providing popcorn for all who attend.  This week’s movie stars Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson as a divorced couple who have their retirement money stolen from them.  Richard (Pierce Brosnan) enlists his ex-wife Kate (Emma Thompson) to help him track down the shady businessman behind the fraud. Soon, they're caught up in a cat-and-mouse caper that has them traveling all around Europe in a whirlwind of intrigue, mad chases and a jewelry theft that might restore Richard's future while rekindling his romance with Kate.  There is no registration required.  You can call the library for title information or stop by and pick up a schedule of all the upcoming movies.

There is going to be a new Babytime schedule going forward. We want to make sure everyone has an enjoyable and positive experience, so we are trying something new. Our The Babytime program has become so popular that it has become necessary for us to have 2 sessions; one for walkers (more active babies) and non-walkers.  Non-walkers will be first on Fridays from 10:15am-11am.  There will be 20-25 minutes of songs and rhymes followed by 20-25 minutes of play.  Walkers will follow from 11:15am-12:15pm.  There will be 25-30 minutes of songs, rhymes and finger plays followed by 25-30 minutes of play.  If you have both a non-walker and walker, please use your judgment and pick the session that you think would be most appropriate.
