The South Plainfield Library will be closed indefinitely.  We feel that this is the best way to keep our community healthy and slow the spread of the COVID19 virus.

If you have library materials at home, continue to enjoy them. We will be renewing everything until the library reopens. We never apply overdue fines when we are closed.  We will be checking phone messages during the week if you have any questions.

The Friends of the Library have postponed their fundraiser at Rodolfo’s restaurant.  All other library programs are cancelled until further notice.

If you are staying at home, take advantage of all the online offerings from your library. They are all free with your library card. Elibrarynj has been a popular source of ebooks and audiobooks for many years, but we offer many other services that you can access from home. You can link to all these and more through the library homepage.

Hoopla is one of the first you should explore.  Whether you connect online or through the app, you will find movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks and comics for every taste and age group.  You can borrow up to five titles each month--without hold lists

Are you fond of streaming video? We offer several services.  Lovers of British TV will find first-class mysteries, dramas, and comedies on Acorn TV. Qello offers the world's largest collection of concert films and music documentaries.   Independent movies from around the world and nostalgic TV shows are found on IndieFlix. You will be able to watch Spanish language telenovelas and movies on Pongalo.  All of these are available (for free) on your computer, smart TV or any internet-enabled device. Check out RB digital on our homepage or the app.

If you are expecting to take the SAT or ACT tests soon, you will be thrilled to use Method Test Prep.  Available through the RB digital page, you will receive a free 7-day pass that gives you access to review material, practice tests and more.  At the end of each week you can sign up for another pass.

Even if you can’t come in to the library to read current issues, you will keep up-to-date online. Sign in to RB Digital to find a wide variety of electronic magazines. With over 70 titles, you are certain to find something interesting to read. (Did I mention that it is free?)

Rosetta Stone is an award-winning immersion approach to learning languages.  After you create a free account using the barcode on your library card as a patron ID, you will be able to choose one of over two dozen languages offered. Daily practice is the best way to learn a new language.

Rosetta Stone is very helpful to English learners as well. After selecting English (American) to learn, they will find vocabulary and sentence practice, and even pronunciation assessment when using a computer with a microphone. Even though we have temporarily canceled our ESL groups, or if you haven’t been able to come to the classes, there are still opportunities to practice.

Please watch this space or connect with us on Facebook for further updates.  We hope that you all stay healthy—we’re sure you won’t be bored—and we hope to see you all again soon.
