Our renovation and expansion is moving along, but we still don’t have a large collection of children’s books.  That doesn’t mean there aren’t any kids books to checkout.  We do have a small collection of books for checkout in the main area.  If there is something you want or need that we don’t have available, please come see one of our reference librarians who can request the book from another library, or let you know if there is a local library that has the book.

Do you do a lot of shopping at Amazon?  Did you know that you can help the South Plainfield Public Library when you shop there?  It is very simple and is for a great cause.  All you have to do is designate the Friends of the South Plainfield Public Library as your charity and shop on!  You go to smile.amazon.com (it’s exactly the same as amazon.com, but this is the charity and non-profit site) and in the pick your own charitable organization box type in Friends of the South Plainfield Public Library and click “Search”.  Select the Friends as your designated organization and shop away. The Friends of the Library will receive 0.5% from every eligible purchase you make through the Amazon Smile program.  If there’s any questions, stop by the library and pick up a flyer.

Missed a movie you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay to rent it or for the DVD?  Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library.  It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost.  We are showing brand new releases every Monday night and we will be providing popcorn for all who attend.  This week’s movie stars Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara.  This movie is about a novice woman cop (Witherspoon) who has never been given the opportunity to shine. However, an opportunity soon appears and she gets trapped into a complex web of cartel life. As she tries to protect the wife (Vergara) of an infamous cartel leader, she soon realizes that she is not playing the same game as everyone else. The two women must decipher an intricate web of good and evil in order to come out alive.  The movie begins at 6:30pm and is rated PG-13.

Kids and young adults can now bring their summer reading booklets in to get checked in and receive their prizes.  There will only be 1 check in this summer due to our ongoing construction, so everyone will get all their prizes when they bring their booklets in.

Our Storytime and Babytime programs for children have a different schedule and location while the library is undergoing its renovation.  All children’s programs will be held in the court room of the Municipal Building which is located next door to the library.  The schedule will be as follows:  Storytime and Craft for ages 3 and up will be on Tuesdays at 10:30am.  Toddlertime and Craft for ages 2 & 3 will be on Tuesdays at 1:00pm.  Babytime ages up to 2 will be on Fridays at 10:15am (Session I) and 11:15am (Session II).  Unfortunately we won’t be able to hold our Wednesday morning or evening storytime programs, but we will continue to schedule special evening events at the senior center each month.

Our library hours are as follows:  Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10am-9pm, Tuesday and Friday 10am-6pm, and Saturday 9am-5pm.  We are closed on Sundays until the fall.

If you can’t get to the library because you are pregnant, don’t drive, or are ill, and still would like to be able to get library materials, then sign up for our homebound delivery service.  You call us to sign up and tell us what you would like to read and we will match you with a volunteer.  We will pick out books for you, check them out and then deliver them to your door.  When you are done the volunteer will pick them up and bring them back to the library along with any requests for other books.   If you have any questions about this service or want to sign up, please give us a call at 908-754-7885.
