Yes, it’s finally here!!  I don’t mean Super bowl 50, but the grand re-opening of the library!  Our renovation and expansion has been completed and we are back and better than ever!  We’ve gained some much needed space for our library materials and our various programs.  All of our adult collection is now on one level to make it easier for patrons to browse the entire collection and our children’s room has been completely redone.  Everything kids related (DVDs, BOCDs, CDs and books) are all in the children’s section.  The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday March 5th before our Read Across America program.  Stop by and visit the newly renovated and expanded South Plainfield Library!

Monday Night Movies will resume their normal schedule beginning Monday February 8th.  Missed a movie you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay to rent it or for the DVD?  Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library.  It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost.  We are showing brand new releases every Monday night and we will be providing popcorn for all who attend.  This week’s movie stars Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain and is an adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2011 novel The Martian.  During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to survive and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.  The movie begins at 6:20pm and is rated PG-13.

Our children’s programs will resume their regular schedule in our brand new children’s area beginning Tuesday February 9th at 10:30am.  The schedule is as follows:  The Storytime program for 2s & 3s is held Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30.  Storytime for ages 3 and up is held Tuesday mornings at 10:30, Wednesday night at 6:30, and Thursday afternoon at 1:15.  Babytime is Friday Mornings from 10:15am-11:15am (non-walkers) and 11:15am-12:15pm (Walkers).  These programs do not require registration.

Now that we are open, our library hours will go back to normal.  They are as follows:  Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10am-9pm, Tuesday and Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 1:30pm-5pm.

Would you like to see your name in the library?  If the answer is yes, consider our “Sponsor a Shelf” fundraiser.  For $100 you can sponsor a shelf in either the adult or children’s sections.  Your name(s) will be placed on a plaque to recognize your contribution.  You can stop by the library to pick up a form or download it from our website.

If you can’t get to the library because you are pregnant, don’t drive, or are ill, and still would like to be able to get library materials, then sign up for our homebound delivery service.  You call us to sign up and tell us what you would like to read and we will match you with a volunteer.  We will pick out books for you, check them out and then our volunteer will deliver them to your door.  When you are done the volunteer will pick them up and bring them back to the library along with any requests for other books.   If you have any questions about this service or want to sign up, please give us a call at 908-754-7885.

To find out more about what’s going on, or if there are any questions, visit our Facebook page, call us (908) 754-7885 or visit us on the web at www.southplainfield.lib.nj.us

See you next week!!
