Happy Holidays! This coming week the library will be closed for Christmas Eve on Tuesday, December 24 and Christmas Day on Wednesday, December 25. The following week, the library will be closed for New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, December 31 and New Year’s Day on Wednesday, January 1. All other library hours will remain the same.
Even though it’s a shorter week, there will still be a Monday Night Movie on Monday, December 23 at 6:30 PM. This week’s movie is a new release that stars Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley, Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, and Elizabeth McGovern as Cora Crawley, to name a few of the many cast members. This movie takes place about a year and a half after the TV series of the same name ended. It is 1927, and King George V and Queen Mary will be visiting Downton Abbey. Please note that the doors do not open until 6:15 PM to give us time to finish setting up. If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there will be a second screening. Due to the library closure on Wednesday, the second screening will be on Friday, December 27 at 12:30 PM. This movie is rated PG.
Regular Children’s Programming will be canceled for the week of December 23. There will be a special Holiday Minute to Win it with Ms. Mija on Monday, December 23 at 2 PM. It is for ages 9 and up. There will be two main challenges: Plastic wrap ball challenge and wrapping paper challenge. You have to unwrap each layer of plastic wrap or wrapping paper and collect the prizes that fall out of each layer- Do you feel up to the challenge? There will also be other Minute to Win it games. Registration is not required.
On Monday, December 30 at 6:30 PM join DJ Dave for a Pre-New Year’s Eve DJ Dance Party at the Senior Center (90 Maple Ave). DJ Dave will be on hand to provide an interactive evening of movement and music. Learn classic dances like the Limbo, the Cha-Cha, the Macarena, and the Hokey Pokey. Join in the fun of hula hoop hot potato, musical squares, and more. Fun for the whole family! Please consider bringing an unopened non-perishable food item or personal care product to donate to the South Plainfield Food Pantry. Registration is not required.
The new year is fast approaching, and the library is already scheduling lots of interesting programs. Join an interactive Tai Chi workshop with Judy England-McCarthy. Come to these workshops if you want to learn some Tai Chi basic warm ups, the Tai Chi 8 form, and a new way of thinking in one fell swoop. Judy is a seasoned veteran of facilitating workshops, and she will take you through stretches and simple movements that are used in Tai Chi. Once you limber up your body, the remainder of the workshop will limber up your mind. Registration is required, and please wear comfortable clothes. You can come to any or all of the sessions: January 13, January 27, February 3, and February 10. All sessions are on Mondays and are at 1 PM. On Saturday, January 18 from 1-3 PM, expert antique appraiser Alan Snyder will be at the Senior Center (90 Maple Ave) to evaluate and give you an appraisal of what he thinks is the value of your item. You can bring one or two items to see how valuable they may be. Registration is required, so please call (908) 754-7885 ext 2 to sign up.
