You want books and we are so happy to be lending them to you! People are loving our contactless pickup – it's easy, safe and you get all the books you’ve been waiting to read.
You can request books through the library catalog, using your library card number and PIN. There is no interlibrary delivery service, so be sure to select items that are held by South Plainfield. You can put holds on all types of materials – including new movies.
If you aren’t sure what you’d like to read, explore Select Reads. Follow the link on our homepage. You’ll find staff recommendations, new title lists, author spotlights and other ways to select reading material. You can even sign up to get monthly emails of books on your favorite topics.
If you still don’t know what you’d like to read, or just want us to browse for you, fill out the survey linked to the curbside instructions. Answer a few simple questions about what you like to read. You’ll get a nice surprise when you get your books home!
Out-of-town residents can still request materials from South Plainfield for pickup at South Plainfield. Send your request to email@example.com (for adults) or firstname.lastname@example.org (for children/teens) and include your full name, library card number, address and phone number. Residents can also make requests to the same email addresses.
What happens after you’ve made your choices? Several times a day, library staff pull all the material that has been requested. We will let you know when your books are ready. Come to the library and give us a call when you arrive. We will put a bag with the items on a table on the porch, labeled with the last four digits of your phone number. Please wait until no one else is on the porch before coming up and claiming your bag.
All the electronic materials you have been enjoying are still available, so if you have been using Hoopla and eLibraryNJ, continue! Readers of electronic magazines are in for a treat. RB Digital previously offered about 85 magazine titles for download (you get to read and keep the entire issue). They have opened up their entire catalog. You now have thousands of titles to choose from.
Our YouTube channel has a great how-to video to help you get started with RB Digital. You’ll also find help in placing holds online and using our other electronic resources. For the younger set, there are lots of story time songs.
Speaking of story time, have you checked out our list of online programming lately? It keeps growing. There are programs for children, tweens, teens, and adults, too. You’ll find the full list on our website and highlights on our Facebook page.
Everyone’s favorite summer reading programs are happening this year—with a few changes. The theme is “Imagine your story.” It’s all happening online, so there are no more booklets to keep track of. Use the links on our website to sign in to ReadSquared. Readers of all ages will be able to log their reading and earn prizes. There are also games and other challenges to help you earn more points and badges. All reading, whether printed, electronic or audio, counts.
We know people are eager to find out when the library will open again—we're eager to see all of you, too. There is no date set for the reopening of the library. We must be sure first of all that the staff and the public will be safe and healthy. We are making some physical changes to the library and adding new procedures. As soon as we are allowed to and as soon as we are ready, we will be happy to welcome you into the library (in limited numbers). Until then, request more items for contactless pickup! Take part in some online programming! Enjoy electronic content! Love your library!
