SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Borough of South Plainfield Building Department hosted its third annual Spring Homeowner’s Workshop for borough residents on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Borough residents were lined up outside the South Plainfield Senior Center for the doors to open for workshop.
Residents had an opportunity to ask questions and receive information on spring home improvement projects ranging from decks, pools, driveways, interior alterations as well as additions. There were plenty of opportunities for one on one conversation with the Boroughs Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire and Zoning Officials.
“This was a great opportunity for the residents to learn about the process when doing home improvements,” said Timothy Muller who was inquiring about adding a bathroom to his home. “This is my first time attending this events and I found it very informative.”
The Division of Consumer Affairs was also on hand to give advice on contract law, the Consumer Fraud Act, tips on how to select a contractor and knowing your legal rights.
“This workshop was a good idea,” said homeowner Wayne Wright. “It was great to able to come and ask questions. Everyone was very helpful.” Mr. Wright was looking for information regarding his driveway and what was needed to expand.
The Borough’s Environmental Officer, Dr. Alice Tempel was also on hand to give advice on materials that are required to be recycled, and to answer the resident’s questions. Joanne Broderick representing the Planning and Zoning Office said “the evening was very busy with residents inquiring what they needed variances for and questions about fences, additions and decks.”
“This is the third season we are offering this workshop,” said South Plainfield Construction Official Dominick Demico. “Residents are familiarizing themselves with the procedures and getting the opportunity to discuss projects one on one with our officials. It is a helpful evening for homeowners and officials alike.”
