WATCHUNG, N.J. - The South Plainfield High School girls varsity basketball team ended their season with a 48-29 triumph over Mount St. Mary in Watchung.
The win marked the 100th victory for Lady Tiger head coach Kevin Hughes. His record now stands at 100-76. Hughes briefly talked about the accomplishment and gave credit right to his players.
“One hundred wins just gives me an opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful teams and girls I’ve had the honor of coaching,” Hughes said. “It’s obviously a great way to end the season.”
One of those great players is senior Sarah Cargill, who put together a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also dished out four assists and had four steals. Cargill finished the season with 11 double-doubles and 1,368 points for her stellar career.
Fellow senior Caity Hughes also went out with a bang, netting 19 points and swiping six steals to help South Plainfield outscore Mount St. Mary 18-11 in the first quarter, and pull away with a 14-4 third.
The Lady Tigers cap the 2015-16 season with an 11-13 record.
