According to police, on 12/29/16 a resident of Bergen Street fell victim to a water company Burglary Diversion. A suspect approached the residence, identified himself as a water company employee, even showing some sort of ID and telling the resident their water was contaminated due to a gas leak. The victim let the suspect enter the house at which point the suspect had the victim and her elderly husband go into the basement and bang on the pipes.

While the victims were in the basement, two other suspects entered the residence. The suspects ransacked a bedroom and stole over $4,000 in cash, $10,500 in gold and jewelry and an undetermined amount from a coin collection. The victims did not realize anything was missing until the following day.

Video surveillance was obtained from the area. The suspects appear to walk from New Market Ave down Bergen Street. They fled the residence carrying armfuls of items toward New Market Ave.
