MONTGOMERY, NJ – The South Plainfield Tigers and Montgomery Cougars played as even a field hockey game as possible. Senior Holly DeLair, however, broke the deadlock scoring with just 3.01 left in overtime to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 victory over Montgomery.Tiger Stephanie Boettger assisted on the winning goal.
The game was played in a steady rain with neither side giving an inch. The Tigers finished with five shots on goal, while the Cougars had three shots on goal.
South Plainfield goalie Rebecca George posted the shutout.
“This game was a hard fought battle by both teams in the pouring rain. South Plainfield got a complete team effort," said South Plainfield field hockey coach Melissa Szeliga.
The victory improves South Plainfield’s record to 3-0-1.
