The South Plainfield Democratic Candidates for Borough Council, Gary Vesce and Bill Bethea, kicked off their campaign this week by pledging to put aside partisan differences and work with the other members of the Borough Council to achieve what is best for the people of South Plainfield. Gary Vesce commented on his experiences in walking in the Labor Day Parade, “The primary message from the great number of people that I met during the parade and at the community picnic was that the people of South Plainfield are very proud of our great Borough and they want their elected leaders to work in a bipartisan manner without regard to party labels. When the people line the streets of South Plainfield on Labor Day, they are not Democrats or Republicans, but they are a proud members of a community demonstrating what makes South Plainfield great.
Bill Bethea agreed with his running mate stating, “In talking to the people during the Labor Day festivities, concerns were expressed about rising property taxes and the quality of life. South Plainfield is a special place where people don’t care about political labels – they care about results. Gary Vesce and I will work together to concentrate on the issues that are important to our residents - better parks, better sports and recreation programs for our kids, more activities for our seniors and, most importantly, a better return on your tax dollars.”
Gary Vesce continued, “South Plainfield residents value past improvements made to the parks and recreation infrastructure, such as the expansions to the PAL and Putnam Park, Spring Lake Park, the soccer field complex, and the turf field behind the PAL. Bill Bethea has years of business experience in the recreational area in running a baseball academy. Bill has excellent ideas to expand and enhance our recreational programs. We will work with the Mayor and the other members of the Borough Council to grow the sports and recreational opportunities for our residents.”
Bill Bethea commented, “Gary Vesce has over 40 years of experience in working on Middlesex County’s infrastructure. He knows how to get things done. We have to work together, Democrats and Republicans, to improve our infrastructure in So. Plainfield. Too many projects such as the truck route have been dormant or forgotten for too long. It is time to work together to get these projects moving.” Gary Vesce concluded by stating, “Bill and I look forward to walking door-to-door over the next two months to meet more people in South Plainfield and hearing their ideas. Bill and I also look forward to sharing our specific recommendations in the coming weeks.”
