Below are prevention tips brought to you by the South Plainfield Police.
1. PICK IT UP FROM THE CARRIER FACILITY
You can usually arrange through the carrier to have your package held at the facility for pickup.
2. IF YOU HAVE CAMERA'S...
Point them at your porch or wherever your carrier usually leaves your packages. Camera's are tremendously helpful when it comes to identifying these criminals.
3. USE SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION
This ensures that the package will be delivered to your hands not left in the open. If you aren't home, then it is kept at the facility to await pickup.
4. LEAVE DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS
If you can't be home, leave some instructions like ... leave it on the back porch, behind the fence or at a neighbor's house.
5. DELIVER IT TO YOUR WORKPLACE
All carriers deliver to businesses. Unless your workplace strictly forbids it, you should be able to have it shipped to you at work if you can't be home.
6. REDIRECT THE PACKAGE TO A NEIGHBOR
If you have a close neighbor, ask them if they're willing to keep an eye out for it and take it in.
7. POST A WARNING SIGN
When all else fails, sometimes a sign might work. Post a sign advertising a surveillance system or alarm system. Or, even if you don't have money for a real camera system, put up a fake camera.
8. MOST IMPORTANTLY
IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.
