KATHMANDU, NEPAL – An Edison resident was among the dead Saturday when massive earthquakes struck Nepal around her Mount Everest team’s camps.
Marisa Eve Girawong of Edison was part of team from Madison Mountaineering climbing group based out of Seattle.
“It is with deep sorrow and profound grief that we can confirm the loss of our Everest/Lhotse base camp doctor, Marisa Eve Girawong. Eve perished in the aftermath of the avalanche that struck the base camp area following the devastating Nepal earthquake earlier today,” Madison co-founder Kurt Hunter posted on the Madison Mountaineering website.
Girawong was a graduate of J.P. Stevens High School, Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Menlo Park Elementary School.
