SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - “Keeping South Plainfield affordable for families and seniors is our job” is the message council candidates Christine Faustini and Derryck White gave this past week while talking with residents. The tricky part of the goal, according to Faustini and White, is to keep South Plainfield affordable while investing more in South Plainfield

“The Municipal portion of the tax bill is down, spending is in check, but investing in our community is up,” said Derryck White, who serves as Council President. “ The portion of the tax bill that is controlled by the Borough Council is at 2009 levels. I will put this record against any town in New Jersey”

“The council is reinventing the way we do things and seeing some strong results,” said Councilwoman Christine Faustini. “municipal taxes are lower, but improvements are happening everywhere in town. I got involved because I saw the good things Mayor Anesh and his team were doing and I wanted to contribute to my hometown that has been so good to me.”

“My husband Lou and I met at South Plainfield High School. We chose to raise our children in the same hometown that has been so special to us. As a mother of four children, I understand how families need to make tough financial decisions everyday” said Faustini, “this perspective I take with me on the Council when I make decisions for the resident of South Plainfield.”

“We reduced taxes without gutting our services,” said Council President White. “Like Christine, I’m raising a family and know the need for affordability while maintaining services for our residents, youth and seniors.”

The candidates pointed to the following projects as an example of investing in the Borough while maintaining a watchful eye over the Borough’s expenses:

  • Senior Center – Kitchen/Bathroom Upgrades
  • Southside Dog Park
  • New Wrestling & Cheer Mats at the PAL
  • Expanding Street Sweeping
  • Memorial Field Lighting
  • Willow Park Expansion
  • PAL Storage Room
  • Community Pool Landscaping, Fencing & Kiddie Pool Upgrades

“These are just a few of the items we have in que,” said Faustini. “We love our hometown and want it to be great place to raise our children and affordable for our families and Senior’s”

Council President White agreed:  “Our goals are to keep taxes down, to keep controlling spending, and to invest in our future.  Getting it done for South Plainfield is our top priority.”
