UNION, NJ — Route 78 westbound has been closed in the Union Township area due to a crash involving an overturned tractor trailer Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Fire Chief Mike Scanio said multiple people injured were transported to Morristown Medical Center. The accident involved two tractor-trailers and a taxi, Scanio said. It appears to have occurred at the Vauxhall bridge overpass and the taxi was engulfed in flames, he said.

Scanio said that while the specific cause of the crash has yet to be determined, one tractor-trailer struck the Vauxhall overpass. Hazmat workers are on the scene, he said.
