Fire Chief Frank Tidwell told TAPinto Plainfield, "they advanced lines into the interior.  The fire began to spread up the walls the rear of the house.  The fire ended up getting into the attic.  It became very stubborn to get the fire out because it's in the attic and there are a lot of knee walls, which means there are a lot of partitions.  So they had to chase the fire which is a grueling task.  But they were able to extinguish the fire by making multiple openings in the floor below."

Tidwell continued, "the fire is under control. We are going to have a county arson investigation come in."

There was mutual aid from Fanwood, North Plainfield, South Plainfield, Scotch Plains, and Mountainside.

No injuries were reported.
