SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Franklin Elementary School kicked off the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday with its annual Pie the Principal fundraiser.

Earlier this month, students had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and have their name entered into a drawing for a chance to pie Principal Ralph Errico at the annual PTO-sponsored event. Tickets for the Pie the Principal fundraiser were 2 for $1 and, this year, a little over $400 was raised.

The lucky winners were selected at random by Errico earlier in the week and, on the morning of Nov. 27, a special school wide assembly was held. Students, teachers, staff, and special guests, including Superintendent of School Dr. Noreen Lishak and Athletic Director Kevin McCann, gathered in the gymnasium.

Chants of ‘pie him’ filled the room as Errico took not one, not two, but 10 pans full of whipped cream to the face. This year's winners included kindergartner Aiden Hosein, first graders Thomas Civitano, Morgan Coneski, and Gracie D’Alessio, second grader Emma Basile, third graders Kevin Elias, Lucas Notino, and Harrison Rogus, and fourth graders Lilliana Davis and Julie Rodger. Additionally, Errico's daughter Danielle, who was at the school that day, also took part in the event.

“After the first year, it was so much fun for the students and staff and I have volunteered to do it every year! It's fun,” said Errico. “I would like to thank the PTO for running the event and the parents and students who purchased raffles for the chance to pie me. It's great to see all the students excited.”

“This is such a wonderful fundraiser sponsored by the Franklin PTO,” added Lishak. “The students love it and Mr. Errico is a such a good sport.”
