The Borough of South Plainfield is seeking to hire a full-time professional to work as a Clerk Typist, providing general clerical assistance in the daily operation of the Zoning & Property Maintenance Dept. Applicant must be detailed oriented & comfortable working with the public and contractors in a busy office atmosphere assisting with general administrative and procedural information. Primary duties include review and processing of Zoning Permit applications insuring completeness and accuracy; takes property maintenance complaints and refers them to the Code Enforcement Officer; assists Zoning Official with duties relative to other functions of the department; performs clerical functions for the department (i.e., types letters, fulfills Open Public records requests) as directed; assists other personnel when necessary; performs related duties as required. Previous experience with municipal Planning, Zoning, Construction and/or Land Development operations a plus. Computer data entry experience, billing, filing & general office skills including telephone and email communications required. This individual must have strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and writing skills, be highly organized, attentive to details, and have the ability to multi-task. Proficiency in the full Microsoft Office Suite is essential and knowledge of software applications related to municipal government a plus. The Borough will also consider an entry level employee who is willing to participate in future off-site, or online, training.
