WOODBRIDGE, NJ – Giorgina Nigro of South Plainfield’s European Hair Designs was killed in an alleged murder/suicide by her husband Vito Nigro on Wednesday morning in Colonia. Giorgina and her husband operated European Hair Designs located in the Oak Park Commons Mall in South Plainfield. The two have been fixtures in South Plainfield’s hair salon network.
South Plainfield residents were stunned by the news of the popular hairdressers. “I cannot believe this,” said Amy Cardinal on TAP into South Plainfield’s Facebook Page . “I have known them for about 15 years. This is horrible and so tragic. I loved Giorgina and so did my kids. This is just beyond belief.”
“George was a fantastic woman with a heart of gold. She didn’t just cut your hair. She warmed your heart and quickly felt like someone you’d known forever while you sat in her chair,” stated a client of Giorgina who requested anonymity. “She was much more than someone who did our hair. She had a large clientele that loved her, just as much as my family does. She will never leave my heart.”
Police have not released details of the murder/suicide, other than to say that Giorgina was killed at home in an apparent homicide. Sources close to the investigation claim that, after murdering his wife, Vito Nigro jumped off an overpass in an attempt to kill himself. Initial reports indicated Nigro was severely injured and later died. However, those reports were inaccurate and the most recent reports indicate that Nigro is still alive and in an area hospital.
"I'm shocked with this news,” said Alisha Roig on TAP into South Plainfield’s Facebook Page . “Giorgina was not only an amazing hairdresser, but a very nice person. They were always so nice when you went in the salon. My condolences go [sic] out to both families. Their children will be in my prayers.”
The Nigros were struck by tragedy early this year when their infant son died. The Nigros have three surviving children. TAP into South Plainfield will continue to update this story as more information is made available.
