SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Members of South Plainfield’s Girl Scout Troop 65305 recently volunteered 20 service hours with HomeFirst of Plainfield and earned their Cadette Community Service Bar.
HomeFirst is an agency that ‘delivers comprehensive solutions to homelessness by providing transitional, supportive and permanent housing, homeless prevention assistance, and family support services to strengthen families and build communities.’
Troop 65305 members, committed to supporting the agency’s mission, created 50 plastic bags filled with essential toiletries, which will be distributed to individuals in need. On Jan. 25 many counties in New Jersey participate in a homeless initiative called Point in Time. During this statewide effort, social service agencies go into the community and count the homeless. A report is then created which provides a statewide snapshot of the homeless population in New Jersey.
The Girl Scouts in Troop 65305 will also be completing their Silver Award Project at HomeFirst by creating a reading corner. To assist in this effort, the troop is seeking donations of new and gently used children’s books ages from birth to age 15. To arrange pick up of books in South Plainfield, or for more information, contact Chere Glover, troop leader, at (908) 377-4469.
