When we were looking for ideas for our Silver Award, we decided to work with animal shelters to gain knowledge about pet adoption. We started the project by interviewing Lifeline Animal Rescue, a foster cat organization. Then, we contacted the Plainfield Area Humane Society to see what we could do to help out.
First we set up collection boxes at schools asking for items from the shelters' wishlist donations. We then hosted an event at the local library, where we taught our attendees how to make no-sew pet pillows to donate to the shelters and educated them on why they should adopt a pet instead of buying one. Afterwards, we interviewed the staff from Lifeline and Humane Society to put together an informational pamphlet. Our pamphlet tells about the benefits of adopting pets, rather than purchasing them.
"The most rewarding experience for me was stepping out of my comfort zone when hosting the Pet Pillow event and interviewing the workers. Working with the pets was a plus!" ~Girl Scout Alanna R.
We also made pet bandanas with "Adopt Me" written on them. "I found my two precious little boys (kittens), Dexter and Kol at Lifeline Animal Rescue and I cannot imagine my life without them." ~Girl Scout Alexis R.
Come see us at PetSmart in the Watchung Square Mall on Saturday, September 16th from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M., where Lifeline will be hosting a national adoption event, for your chance to adopt an absolutely adorable cat!
