SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - South Plainfield was privileged to have two of their senior student-athletes selected to participate in the Greater Middlesex Conference Senior All-Star Basketball Game on March 28, 2017.  The Lady Tigers were represented by senior Caitlin Hughes, while the boys’ team were represented by senior Deshai Smith.

Deshai Smith had a great senior season for the South Plainfield Boys’ Basketball Team.  He averaged nine points per game and shot about 55%.  He had 47 steals on the season and averaged 10.2 rebounds per game.  In his two year career Deshai accumulated 315 points and an amazing 406 rebounds.  Caitlin Hughes also had a spectacular senior year.  She finished the season with 366 points.  Caitlin showed she was a well-rounded player by ending the year with 79 rebounds and a school record of 141 steals.  Caitlin was named to the Greater Middlesex Conference All-White Division Team and finished her career with the steal record for South Plainfield with 277.  Both players were leaders for South Plainfield basketball this season and well deserving of this honor.
