SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Ms. Peitz eighth grade social studies classroom this week was transformed into an 1880’s scientific lab.  Almost out of a scene from Thomas Edison’s own Back to the Future, Peitz’s students learned and presented their late 1800’s science inventions for all to see.

By far the most popular invention was George Eastman’s Kodak camera.  Students were required to build replicas and discuss both the inventor and how the invention worked.  In total 21 students are presenting their inventions.

Each year Ms. Peitz eight grade class does the invention assignment.  Ms. Peitz said “there is a bit of a lull between the Civil War and World War I, and this assignment really gets the students focused on the late 1800’s.  Each year I always learn something new from the students.”
