SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - On Saturday, March 11th, In-N-Out Bagel located at 2321 Plainfield Ave celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of its business in South Plainfield. Mayor Matthew P. Anesh was in attendance along with Council President Derryck C. White and council members Christine Faustini, Jon Dean, Gary Vesce, Joseph C. Wolak and Borough Administrator/CFO Glenn Cullen.

In-N-Out Bagel is managed by Assem Hassan who has been in the bagel industry for over 25 years. South Plainfield is just one of Hassan’s storefronts, with other locations in Montclair, Randolph and Staten Island. Hassan says a few things make In-N-Out Bagel special. “First of all we give the people the food they like. Secondly, we do bagels the old fashioned way,” he said of their fresh, daily hand rolled style. “The same way it’s been done for hundreds of years. Plus we give the freshest food.”

Hassan is encouraged by the location of his new store. In-N-Out Bagel is located on busy Plainfield Avenue right next to both the Middle School and High School. Hassan appreciates the enthusiasm towards bagels in this area. “The people in this town love bagels and they understand what we do, so there’s been big support from the people in the town.”

Council President White is happy bagels have returned to Plainfield Ave. He says the business is already “thriving.”

“You can see here how many people are at the grand opening. I come in every morning, just about, when I drop my kids off at school right around the corner and they’ve had a good response from the community, they’ve had great things to say about the residents and how welcoming they are,” White said before going behind the counter along with the mayor and his fellow council members for a behind the scenes tour of the kitchen.

White is also impressed by the In-N-Out Bagel management’s desire to get more involved within the community, already expressing interest in perhaps lending themselves as a sponsor for varsity sports programs at SPHS. “It’s always nice when you have a business that’s community minded. You mentioned some of the things they’d like to do, getting involved with the community, we’ve been very blessed that we have businesses that understand their social responsibility to our community, to work and exist here, and we have a great partnership when we continue to look to do more,” White said.
