SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Representatives from Investors Bank visited South Plainfield High on Oct. 10 and spoke to students in Robert “Shayne” White’s co-op, finance and careers classes about the important role  a winning mindset plays in one’s life. The program was organized by Miguel Carvalho, assistant vice president of Investors and branch manager of the South Plainfield bank, and White, coordinator for cooperative education at the high school and featured Dennis Budinich, senior vice president/chief culture office for Investors, and Amanda Chirelli, a greeter at the Lakewood Branch and professional motivational speaker for disability awareness and advocacy.

“You are young and have a fresh mind,” Budinich told the students. “If you find a way to develop positive, strong mindsets and stay positive and upbeat, then your whole life will stay that way.”

According to Budinich, family, friends, and educators all contribute to how one thinks. Surrounding oneself with positive influences, he said, will help toward one becoming a “positive thinker” with successful results. He also discussed how key factors – including criticism, comparing, complaining, contending and condemning – can negatively affect one’s personal potential. “You have to start thinking about what you’re thinking about,” Budinich said. “They way we think, feel and behave all has an impact on the results we achieve.”

Students also had the opportunity to hear from Chirelli, who has been working as a greeter since 2008. Confined to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy, Chirelli needs assistance performing many simple tasks people do every day. She admits that, like everyone, she has good days and bad days, but its up to her to remain positive.

“There are days I get down but I have to stay positive. It all starts with me,” Chirelli said. “Cerebral palsy stinks but you cant do anything about it and the world doesn’t care about it. Focusing on the things you can’t change won’t get you anywhere.”

The first greeter ever hired by Investors, Chirelli ‘s message to students was clear. “I spent a lot of time comparing myself to others, listening to other people’s opinions and letting people judge me before they knew me,” she said. “If someone told me six year ago I would be here today I would have said ‘no way.’ Don’t ever give up or let someone tell you that you can’t do something.”
