PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers Wrestling had a strong Big Ten debut as the Scarlet Knights dropped a hard fought dual meet to #1 ranked Iowa 27-9.  South Plainfield Wrestling favorite sons Scott DelVecchio and Anthony Ashnault didn’t disappoint the raucous Rutgers crowd of 5,420 as DelVecchio won his match at 133lbs over Phillip Laux 10-3 and Ashnault won his match at 141lbs over Josh Dziewa 3-1.

DelVecchio’s win over Laux was Rutgers’ first ever individual Big Ten Conference win.  An energetic DelVecchio fired up the Rutgers faithful as he walked off the mat in victory.

Ashnault followed up DelVecchio’s win with a dramatic win of his own on a last second take down of Iowa’s Josh Dziewa to win 3-1.  Ashnault ranked #13 in the nation upset # 6 Dziewa as time ran out to a thunderous home crowd.  Ashnault scored the first point of the match on an escape.  Dziewa knotted things up early in the third period on an escape of his own before Ashnault’s takedown as time expired.
