SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Former South Plainfield High School wrestling standout and current New York University freshman Ray Jazikoff got the first weekly honor of his collegiate career as he was named a University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Monday, Jan 5.
The former Tiger notched a fourth place finish in the 157-pound bracket at the Wilkes University Open Wrestling Championships on Sunday, December 28, in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Jazikoff went 4-2 overall in the open, and beat three NCAA Division I opponents, two from the University of Maryland and the other from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, on his way to his fourth place finish.
A former high school All American, Jazikoff recorded 124 wins during his four years at South Plainfield, putting him in the elite 100 win club for the Tigers, district champion, GMC Champion and regional runner-up as a senior. As a senior for the Tigers, Jazikoff was 2014’s 145 Greater Middlesex Conference champion a District 12 champion and a regional runner up. He also helped lead South Plainfield to its 30th consecutive District championship as a senior captain.
He has 24 wins on the season, which leads NYU. The college team currently sits at 10-3 overall.
