EDISON, NJ - JFK Hartwyck at Edison Estates offers both short- and long-term care and prides itself on offering progressive care with a personal touch. Located on Brunswick Avenue in Edison, the 280-bed facility is part of JFK Hartwyck Centers – a network of three, long-term and sub-acute rehabilitation centers with more than 500 beds offering traditional nursing home care, rehabilitation, sub-acute, medical rehabilitation care and respite services.

Edison Estates offers an array of specialized services, each of which is provided with the utmost care and concern for the patient’s best outcome, and patients benefit from having access to a full spectrum of medical specialties, including physical, speech, occupational and recreation therapy, post surgical care, post hip/knee replacement therapy, IV therapy and wound care. Edison Estates also offers a specialized orthopedic unit as well as a specialized and secure unit while also catering residents in need of basic elder care.

“Our services, along with the patients and residents who turn to us, run the gamut,” said Andrew Kahane, CALA, assistant administrator at Edison Estates, noting that since the facility is affiliated with the hospital, patients can expect the same, high level of care. “We truly follow the JFK motto of providing ‘exceptional care, exceptional people.’ Our services, combined with the care we provide, are excellent.”

Edison Estates’ employs a multi-team approach and all patients receive 24/7 individualized care provided by a treatment team comprised of highly skilled nurses, physicians, social workers, physical/occupational/recreation therapists and an experienced support staff. While patients are transported to the hospital for procedures such as chemotherapy and dialysis, most medical treatment is provided on site and under the care of one’s own physician.

Committed to making patient and resident stays pleasant and home-like, Edison Estates features a warm and inviting atmosphere, spacious, well-tended grounds, cheerful dining areas and comfortable, stylish bedrooms. Alongside medical treatment, patients and residents enjoy exceptional daily social and recreational activities as well as special events, trips and guest speakers.

“People should consider Edison Estates due to the care they receive and the team approach to medical care,” said Kahane.

Dedicated to helping its sub-acute patients get back on their feet quickly, the facility offers an Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program that specializes in comprehensive rehabilitation and nursing care for individuals recovering from orthopedic injuries and surgeries. Training and education of the patient and members of their support system is incorporated into the care plan, which includes physical, occupational and recreational therapy designed to meet each patient’s individual needs and goals, and nurses who carefully monitor and manage a patient’s condition.

All orthopedic patients are seen by an attending physician as well as a physiatrist – a medical doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehab – who will communicate with one’s orthopedist to ensure continuity of one’s individualized rehabilitation plan. There is also a skilled nurse manager available to answer questions and provide tours prior to admission and, once admitted, the coordinator will manage and actively participate in a patient’s care by being receptive to individual needs, ideas and concerns.

“We are very proud of our orthopedic unit. We strive for positive outcomes and look to getting patients home as soon as possible,” said Kahane, adding that the orthopedic unit features dedicated treatment areas and all patients receive complimentary television and telephone services as well as private rooms. “We offer everyone a private room, something most places to do not or can not offer.”
