BRIDGEWATER, NJ- The Somerset Patriots, winners of the First Half Championship and leading the Atlantic League Liberty Division by 4.5 games in the second half, are stocking up on pitching.

On Tuesday, the  11-2 Patriots announced the signings of right-hander Stephen Perakslis, who started the 2018 season with the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, and veteran Atlantic League pitcher Bobby Blevins who is expected to start Tuesday night’s game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

Blevins, also a right-hander, has pitched  seven years in the Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks and Sugar Land Skeeters.

Perakslis is penciled in to start the 11 a.m Wednesday game, the first half of a day-night doubleheader.

Perakslis  had a 3-1 record and 27 strikeouts over 41.2 innings pitched in 28 games with the Travelers.

Before joining the Mariners, Perakslis spent his entire professional career in the Chicago Cubs organization from the time he was selected by the team in the 21st round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft.

The Abington, MA. native split time between Double-A and Triple-A last season and finished with a combined 5-3 record, a 3.19 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 73.1 innings pitched in 34 games.

For his career, which includes two seasons of Triple-A service, Perakslis has a 24-18 record, a 3.94 ERA, 16 saves and 303 strikeouts over 402 innings pitched in 209 games.

Blevins best year in the Atlantic League came with Long Island in 2014 when he was 9-5 with a 2.95 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched in 27 games, all as a starter.

Last season in Sugar Land, the Briarcliff Manor, NY native went 7-7 with a 4.85 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 133.2 innings pitched in 27 games (23 started).

Blevins was originally drafted in the 13th round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he spent the first four seasons of his professional career.

Blevins also played three seasons with the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League from 2012-2014.

He has a career 4.20 ERA and 946 strikeouts over 1,443 innings pitched in 278 games.
