To the editor:

On behalf of the South Plainfield Police Department, I wanted to take a moment to recognize those that were instrumental to the success of the South Plainfield Junior Police Academy (SPJPA) that was held August 5-9, 2019.  The 5th and 6th-grade SPJPA cadets spent the first four days at the South Plainfield PAL Building and Veterans Park and concluded their week with a graduation ceremony at Borough Hall/Police Headquarters.  Throughout the week, the cadets experienced a condensed age-appropriate version of the police recruit training that our new hires go through in the police academy; some of the various topics covered were handled by instructors, volunteers, and those who offered personal time and experience to help the cadets gain a better understanding of many foundational skills a police officer requires.
