To Whom It May Concern,

I am Isabella Ardito, a sophomore at South Plainfield High School in South Plainfield, New Jersey. I have received an invitation to attend the National Student Leadership Conference(NSLC) for the psychology and neurology program.  The NSLC selects the top high school students around the world. Attending will not only look good on my college application, but will also give me college experience. My father passed away less than a month ago, and therefore my family cannot support me fully to go, so I am asking you for your financial support.

I would like to attend the conference because I wish to become a neurologist. Neurology interests me greatly because my family has dealt a lot with diseases of the mind. My grandmother has Parkinson's disease and my great-grandmother had Alzheimer's.  Also, my uncle suffers from bipolar disorder. I want to understand these diseases of the mind and find out more about them, and in order to do that, I must understand how the brain functions and how brain disorders come to be. I work hard in school and becoming a neurologist has always been my dream job.

The psychology and neurology program I wish to attend runs from July 7th to July 15th next summer(2016) at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. In those nine days I will learn all about psychology and neurology, including diagnosing and suggesting treatments for patients, visiting medical facilities such as Massachusetts General Hospital, talking with clinical psychologists and neurologists, and doing labs that will help me learn about neurotransmitters and examine what the brain is made of. I will also attend some workshops and classes at Harvard Medical School. Some professional psychologists and neurologists I could possibly meet are VADM Vivek H Murthy, US Surgeon General, Dr. Francis Collins, Director of National Institutes of Health, Dr. Norman B. Anderson, Executive Vice President of the American Psychological Association. It is a dream of mine to do all of these things.

The total cost for me to attend is $3,195. This price includes housing, most meals, materials for class, and activity expenses. Due to my father's very recent passing, my family does not have much money for any out-of-school activities, including my going to the NSLC, and a scholarship will only cover a small portion of the cost if I get one, so I am asking for your assistance. Donations can be sent to the Boyle Memorial Foundation, please put Ardito in the memo section and send to 209 Van Fleet Avenue, South Plainfield, New Jersey 07080.
