Letter to the Editor from Tom McCreesh

Dear Editor

This Saturday June 10th we are holding our 14th annual COACHES Care Golf outing supporting the JFK Medical Center.  This year all proceeds will go towards aiding children with brain cancer.  In our discussions with the doctors, we have decided to donate an Immersive Rehabilitation Exercise Machine (IREX), which is used for both upper and lower extremity therapy.   The IREX uses a camera connected to a computer to place the live real-time, full body image of the patient onto the screen.  This permits the child to be immersed in dynamic virtual reality activities where they interact with objects and scenarios programmed by the therapist according to specific needs and abilities.  The interactive programs and games help to build balance, trunk control, mobility and coordination, giving the child a sense of self-esteem, confidence and motivation to stick with the therapy. The IREX records the therapy sessions, allowing the therapist to review and compare data from session to session for quantitative results on the child’s progress.

While the golf portion of the day is sold out there are other ways to contribute to COACHES Care.  If  you visit our website www.coaches-care.com, there are various sponsorship opportunities and a number of items up for auction.  We have tickets to New York Jets, Giants, Rangers, Yankees, Mets, New Jersey Devils and a Boston Red Sox package that includes a night in a Boston Hyatt and 2-piece set of Nautica Luggage.  The Yankee tickets include all food, non- alcoholic beverages, parking and are only two rows off the field.   We also autographed baseballs of Aaron Judge and Ron Guidry of the Yankees, a UCONN women’s basketball signed by Geno Auriemma, and a football signed by former Rutgers stars Brian Leonard, Mohamed Sanu, Devin and Jason McCourty.  There is a trip to Myrtle Beach for 4 (In 2 condo’s), and 1 bouquet of flowers per month for 12 months.  If you want to sponsor or bid please feel free to contact me as my info is on the site.  I constantly bring bids to the outing for people who cannot make the event.

Finally on Monday June 12, we are holding a fundraiser at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, across from Menlo Park Mall in Edison from 5-9.  All you have to do is let your server know that you are there and we receive 20% of your bill for the charity.  In our 17 year existence we have raised over $800,000 and are proud and excited to know that the $1 million mark is something that is within our reach.  As you consider COACHES Care, know that we are a 100% Volunteer 501c3 organization and all of our proceeds go to the hospital.
