SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - On Sunday August 10th 2014, Liberate The Chains hosted its first annual Pageant For A Purpose in South Plainfield NJ. Each contestant chose a platform charity of her choice to advocate for such as ALS Association, NJ Rescue, Help Us Donate Foundation, The Smile Train, UNICEF, DoSomething.Org, and The Helen Keller Center.

The sponsors of the event were Collabera and Indus American Bank then in turn donated a large sum of money to the winners’ chosen charity. The winner of the pageant, 17 year old Kyra Seeley from Middlesex High School won $1000 from our sponsor to donate to DoSomething.Org.  The first runner-up, 16 year old Elizabeth Diaz from Watching Hills regional High School won $500 to donate to the Help Us Donate Foundation.

The proceeds from the event itself, $1500, were all donated to a trafficking shelter in Gujarat, India.

Liberate The Chains is a student-led charity organization that works towards raising awareness and funds for the fight against Human Trafficking around the world. It also aims to motivate and activate other teenagers to make a difference in the global community. Pageant For a Purpose was an idea that President Divya Mehta and Vice President Yulemni Morel created as a fun exciting way for teens to get involved.
