On Tuesday, May 09, 2017, at 430 AM, South Plainfield Police Department patrol units were notified by a passing motorist that they observed a group of men attempting to steal mail out of a US Post Office mailbox on the corner of Park Avenue and Caffery Terrace.
Patrol units arrived on scene and subsequently arrested Andrewaxe Verastegui-Munoz, 19, from Perth Amboy, NJ, along with two juvenile’s ages, 15 and 17, also of Perth Amboy, NJ. Found in their possession was a large amount of mail and a tool used to remove the mail from the mailbox.
Verastegui-Munoz was charged with two counts of employing a juvenile, theft, and possession of stolen property. Juvenile charges are pending.
The US Postal Inspectors Office was notified and will follow up this investigation.
