SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield residents braved the brisk weather donning hats and gloves as Mayor Anesh flipped the switch on this year’s Holiday Tree Lighting at Borough Hall. Residents swigging hot chocolate and singing Christmas songs cheered as the tree flickered with light.

“This tree was planted about seven years ago with the intent it would someday host South Plainfield’s holiday celebration,” said South Plainfield Administrator Glenn Cullen. “This year the tree was finally large enough and I know former Superintendent Capparelli who planted the tree is happy this day has finally come.

"It was nice to have our first community event in front Borough Hall where so many people came together to sing in the holiday season,” said Amy Johnson Chairwoman of the Public Celebrations Committee. “The joy on the children's faces when Santa arrived were priceless.  The magic of the season is alive in South Plainfield."

The day was cold, but the cocoa was warm and the attitudes even warmer. The Public Celebrations Committee hosted the event. The committee members were as follows: Scott Miller, Stephanie Wolak, Bill Seesselberg, Jen Ratti, Kelly Daley, Gina D'Urso, Gina McConville, Debra Leporino, Christine Faustini, and Amy Johnson.
