(South Plainfield, July 1.) Rick McCriskin, president of McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, has renewed the funeral home’s Adopt-A-Spot agreement with the South Plainfield Clean Business Association to maintain Monument Park for another two years. This is the second renewal since 2010, when Mr. McCriskin organized a major volunteer cleanup at the park. Weeds were removed and fresh plantings and mulch were installed. He then contracted with several local landscaping companies to take turns cutting the grass, trimming the hedges and removing weeds and litter.
This arrangement has worked very well to keep the park looking green and manicured. It is a suitable setting for the monuments honoring the men and women who have served their county and community in uniform. Grass will be cut weekly, and hedges will be trimmed twice during the growing season.
The CBA is looking for more park adopters. Veterans Park, Cotton Street Park and Walnut Street Park are available. For more information about the Adopt-A-Spot program, contact the Clean Communities Coordinator at (908) 226-7621 or e-mail email@example.com.
