Letter to the Editor:

The Middlesex County School Boards Association and Association of School Administrators hosted the 34th Annual Student Recognition in-person Program honoring Outstanding Juniors and Seniors in the Middlesex County High Schools in 2019, with over 400 attendants.  The program began 34 years ago headed by Mark Finkelstein who is presently the Superintendent at Middlesex Regional Educational Services.

The recognition event was held at the New Brunswick High School for many years.  For the past several years the event was held at the Old Bridge High School hosted by Superintendent David Cittadino.  One junior and one senior from each Middlesex County High School is recommended by their guidance department to be recognized as an “Unsung Hero”.   The student, in his or her own unique way, chose to contribute rather then complain, show dedication rather than hesitation, to see challenges as opportunities and to act on each opportunity, by each ones’ own educational acumen.  These unsung heroes, who make our high schools a better place each day and will make further influences for the needed differences in our society.

This year, due to the COVID19 pandemic and Governor Murphy’s mandate for social distancing, the 35th Student Recognition Event had to be cancelled.  A virtual event took precedence over our in-person event, honoring this year’s Unsung Heroes.  The Middlesex County Executive Board team worked numerous hours along with the Middlesex County Association of School Administrators, Dr. Scott Taylor, President and Dr. Linda Madison, retired Superintendent of Middlesex Borough Public Schools to insure the students received the recognition they deserved from entering on the RED CARPET, having their pictures taken to having their dinner served to them.

The MCSBA team consisted of Elliot Stroul, Vice President for Legislation; Sharon Miller, Vice President Secretary/Programs;  Lucille Bloom, Delegate to the NJSBA Board of Directors/ 2020 MCSBA President; Debbie Boyle - 2015-2019 MCSBA President/Immediate Past President; Cassie Sucher Greeley, 2015-2019 Immediate Past President; Deven Patel, 2019 Alt. Delegate to the NJSBA Board of Directors/2020 Delegate to NJSBA Board of Directors and attended and presented the county reports.  Dr. Lawrence Feinsod, Executive Director of the New Jersey State School Boards Association,, who has the ability to influence, motivate and enable others to contribute towards the effectiveness and success of our children is also the President of the Northeast section of Executive Directors.  Dr. Feinsod has always stated that “This Student Recognition Event is one off the best Nights of the Year”.  We are proud of each of our 2020  “Unsung Heroes” and encourage them to continue on this path through their lifetime.
