SOUTH PLAINFIELD - The South Plainfield Senior Center staff has been working to fill the calendar and keep members active despite the continued closure of their building. Utilizing the PAL Memorial Field turf field, located at 1250 Maple Avenue, classes are held every day of the week with Zumba Gold on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while Chair Yoga is held Tuesdays and Thursdays. October 19 is Meatball Monday from 12p.m. to 1p.m. and will be held at the back entrance of the Senior Center on 90 Maple Ave. A favorite of the center for years, the staff has adapted the event to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines.

“We have 90 seniors signed up to attend Meatball Monday,” said Tree Olano, South Plainfield Senior Center Director. “We’re so excited for the event!”

Once a month for over two years, the Senior Center has been transformed into an Italian eatery for Meatball Monday for seniors to enjoy meatball sandwiches and friendly conversation. Despite COVID-19 quarantine, the staff has continued the tradition while adjusting to the times. Italian-themed balloons and checker tablecloths will adorn the back entrance of the center as their beloved seniors drive by to pick up their meals and say a quick hello.

Twin City Pharmacy also took part in the activities to help keep seniors safe, offering free flu shots in early October in the vestibule of the center with open doors. They brought the famous Twin City hot dog cart and gave away free hot dogs.
